Egyptian Minister of Agriculture Stresses Early Preparedness and Availability of Safe Pesticides for a Successful Agricultural Season
Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, emphasized the importance of ensuring the availability of safe, scientifically approved pesticides to combat pests and diseases that may emerge during the current agricultural season, as part of the state’s plan to protect strategic crops and strengthen food security.
The minister stressed the need to intensify extension campaigns across all governorates, particularly in areas cultivating strategic crops, to raise farmers’ awareness of modern agricultural practices and advanced technologies that enhance productivity and crop quality.
He also recommended providing farmers with comprehensive technical guidance, including optimal planting schedules, modern irrigation methods, and balanced fertilization techniques, all of which help reduce costs while maximizing land and water efficiency.
Farouk directed agricultural extension engineers and researchers to increase their field visits to monitor crop conditions regularly and provide immediate technical support to farmers in tackling any emerging challenges. He noted that early preparedness is key to easing the burden on farmers and creating a favorable environment for agricultural production.
In this context, the minister highlighted the importance of full coordination with relevant stakeholders to ensure the success of the winter season and achieve the highest productivity levels, particularly in wheat, which is a cornerstone of national food security.
He further pointed out that the ministry has made agricultural machinery available to farmers at reduced prices, including planting and harvesting equipment, in order to save time, labor, and costs, while improving the efficiency and quality of agricultural operations.
The minister concluded his remarks by urging farmers to adhere to the technical recommendations issued by the ministry and to benefit from the extension services and subsidized inputs provided by the state, in order to secure a successful agricultural season that positively reflects on national production and farmers’ income.
